Hedge funds and pension funds were among the institutional investors Angus Ni represented while prosecuting securities class actions at Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossman LLP. Those actions were brought against U.S. listed corporations across multiple industries and jurisdictions, with both domestic and international discovery forming part of the litigation work.
Today, as co-founder of Morrow Ni LLP, operating under the Moni Law brand, Angus Ni advises individuals and companies in complex disputes and has particular expertise in securities litigation and risk management for publicly listed companies. His professional record therefore includes both institutional investor representation and advisory work involving securities litigation risk.
The two areas arise from different professional roles. At Bernstein Litowitz, he prosecuted claims on behalf of hedge fund and pension fund investors against listed corporations. At Moni Law, his practice includes advising publicly listed companies on securities litigation risk and related disputes.
That securities experience also sits within a broader practice involving international arbitration, corporate investigations, and transnational disputes. Angus Ni’s institutional investor litigation experience is one documented part of a career that has developed across major law firms and a New York-based boutique litigation practice.
Institutional Investor Representation Across Industries
At Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossman LLP, Angus Ni prosecuted numerous securities class actions against U.S. listed corporations on behalf of hedge fund and pension fund investors. The cases extended across multiple industries and were litigated in diverse U.S. jurisdictions.
The matters also involved domestic and international discovery. That element of the work placed securities claims before U.S. courts while requiring evidence and records that extended beyond a single domestic setting.
The role itself was clearly defined. Angus Ni represented institutional investors in securities class actions against publicly listed companies, adding substantial securities litigation work to a professional background that later expanded through other forms of commercial dispute practice.
His work at Bernstein Litowitz followed earlier experience at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and preceded the co-founding of Morrow Ni LLP. Across those positions, the professional record includes securities class actions, international arbitration, corporate investigations, and complex commercial disputes.
Angus Ni and Advisory Work for Listed Companies
Angus Ni advises publicly listed companies on securities litigation risk and related disputes through Moni Law. This practice area connects directly with his earlier institutional experience at Bernstein Litowitz, where his work focused on securities claims brought by hedge fund and pension fund investors.
The Angus Ni lawyer background also includes international proceedings. Before joining Bernstein Litowitz, he practiced as an associate in the litigation department of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, where he participated in complex arbitrations before International Chamber of Commerce and ICSID tribunals.
Corporate investigations were another part of the Debevoise experience. Angus Ni’s work in international arbitration included assignments at a major transnational law firm, while his investigative work extended across several jurisdictions.
At Moni Law, the current practice serves individuals and companies involved in complex disputes, including Chinese clients engaged in transnational matters within English-speaking legal systems. Native-level Mandarin fluency accompanies litigation work conducted in English, including proceedings in U.S. federal and state courts.
Financial Disputes and the Evidentiary Record
A FINRA arbitration brought by J.P. Morgan Securities LLC provides a specific example of Angus Ni’s work in securities disputes. The claimant pursued fraud and breach of contract claims seeking more than $6.4 million arising from a client’s short sale of a public company’s IPO stock.
The trial team was led by Angus Ni, Serena Yang, and Jing He. During a six-day evidentiary hearing, cross-examination of J.P. Morgan’s own witnesses established that the firm knew the Regulation-SHO compliant close-out cost was $279,250 but chose to leave the position open.
J.P. Morgan later closed the position during a historic price spike. The FINRA panel denied the fraud claims in full and limited the client’s exposure to $279,250, with each side bearing its own fees. The panel held that every dollar above the close-out cost was the direct and foreseeable consequence of J.P. Morgan’s own decisions.
For Angus Ni, the proceeding forms part of a securities litigation record that also includes prosecuting institutional investor claims and advising listed companies on securities litigation risk. The matters involve different clients and procedural settings, but each belongs to the securities-related work documented across his professional history.
The practice also extends beyond securities matters. Earlier assignments at Debevoise included ICC and ICSID arbitrations and large-scale corporate investigations across multiple jurisdictions, while Moni Law represents Chinese individuals and businesses involved in transnational disputes in English-speaking legal systems.
That transnational dimension is supported by native-level Mandarin fluency and litigation experience in U.S. courts. Angus Ni’s work includes federal and state proceedings, with experience before the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York as part of a practice grounded in the New York legal market.
